The yield on the German 10-year Bund rose to 2.4%, the highest in three months, as key economic data weakened the argument for the European Central Bank to continue cutting interest rates in the magnitude that was previously expected. The Eurozone’s inflation rate rose to 2% in October, ahead of market expectations of 1.9% as the cost of core components of the consumer price basket unexpectedly refrained from decelerating, and extended lingering concerns of sticky services inflation. This aligned with surveys showing that inflation expectations among the EA’s households rebounded to their highest since February, threatening the central bank’s progress in reigning in price growth. In the meantime, earlier data showed that the Eurozone GDP expanded by 0.4% in the third quarter, firmly above market expectations of a 0.2% expansion with better-than-expected aggregates from Germany and France, adding leeway for more restrictive rates and paring demand for government bonds.
