The S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.4% to 8,849 on Tuesday, marking its third consecutive session of gains, buoyed by continued strength in gold and mining stocks. Mining heavyweights were among the standout gainers, with Rio Tinto rising 1.5% and BHP Group up 1.1%. Gold miners also provided strong support to the index, as Capricorn Metals surged 3.2%, Evolution Mining gained 3.1%, Regis Resources advanced 2.7%, and Genesis Minerals added 2.1%. However, broader market gains were partially tempered by weaker PMI data, as flash estimates showed the composite PMI fell to 52.1 in September, from 55.5 in the prior month. While this marked the twelfth consecutive month of expansion, it also reflected the slowest pace of growth during that period, with both manufacturing (51.6 vs 53 in August) and services (52 vs 55.8) showing signs of moderation. Investors are now turning their attention to the Monthly CPI Indicator, due for release on Wednesday.
