According to a statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce, senior US officials have made multiple attempts to engage through relevant channels in recent days, seeking to open a dialogue on tariff issues. In response, Chinese officials reaffirmed their demand for the US to “correct its wrongdoings” by lifting all unilateral tariffs. Additionally, Beijing exempted multiple sectors from it 125% reciprocal tariff package on the US, signaling that it aims to stimulate flows of goods despite the strict rhetoric against US protectionism. This was after fresh data showed that export orders for Chinese manufacturers sank to a near three-year low in April.
