Eurozone retail sales fell 0.1% month-on-month in September 2025, marking a third straight month of contraction or stagnation and missing expectations for a 0.2% increase. Sales of fuel dropped 1.0%, extending their decline for a third consecutive month, while non-food sales fell 0.2% after a 0.5% decrease in August. In contrast, food, drinks, and tobacco sales were unchanged following a modest 0.4% rise in the previous month. Among major economies, retail trade declined in Italy (-0.6%), the Netherlands (-0.4%), and France (-0.1%), but rose in Spain (+0.4%) and Germany (+0.2%). On an annual basis, retail trade growth slowed to 1.0%, in line with expectations, from 1.6% in August.
