Simultaneously, the White House indicated that the steep import tariffs originally planned for July might be postponed if trade negotiations make sufficient progress. In France, preliminary data showed that the annual consumer prices unexpectedly accelerated in June 2025, from May’s over four-year low. Meanwhile, producer prices rebounded in May, marking its first annual increase since a flat reading in November 2023. Among individual stocks, the leading gainers were Kering and Schneider Electric, each up 3.9%, followed by Legrand, which rose 3.5%. For the week, the CAC 40 is set for a weekly gain.

Household consumption in France edged down to 0.2% month-over-month in May 2025, from an upwardly revised 0.5% increase in the previous month, though it slightly exceeded market expectations of a 0.1% gain. The slowdown was primarily driven by a decline in food expenditures, which fell by 0.4% following a 2.7% rise in the previous month—largely due to reduced purchases of various food items, including chocolate, confectionery, and beverages. Meanwhile, spending on manufactured goods declined by 0.3%, reversing a 0.6% gain in April, as purchases of durable goods decreased. In contrast, energy consumption rebounded notably, rising by 2.2% after a 3.7% drop in the previous month. On an annual basis, household spending fell by 0.5% in May 2025.

Prices fell at a slower pace for mining and quarrying, energy, and water (-3.4% vs -14.7% in April), as well as manufactured products (-0.1% vs -0.5%), particularly coke and refined petroleum (-1% vs -7.8%), electrical and electronic equipment, computers and machinery (-0.1% vs -0.3%), and other manufactured goods (-0.2% vs -0.3%). On a yearly basis, producer prices rose by 0.2% in May, rebounding from a revised 0.7% fall in April.
