The DAX in Frankfurt extended losses to trade more than 1% lower on Tuesday, hitting the lowest since August 1, as traders digested the latest Eurozone inflation data. The annual inflation rate accelerated to 2.1% in August, from 2% in July, topping the ECB’s target and market expectations, and supporting expectations that policymakers will keep rates unchanged next week. At the same time, geopolitical tensions, political uncertainty in France and tariff worries continued to worry investors. Although the EU’s trade agreement with the US has reduced some of the uncertainty around tariffs, the 15% blanket duty on EU exports still poses a potential drag on economic activity. Losses were seen across nearly all sectors, with Fresenius Medical Care sinking over 5%. Siemens, Vonovia, Commerzbank, E.ON, Zalando, and Deutsche Post also posted declines of 1% to 2%. Conversely, defense stocks such as Rheinmetall, Renk, and Hensoldt advanced around 1%.
