The unemployment rate for the male population fell to a five-month low of 5%. In the meantime, the female labor force participation rate rose to 33.7% from 33.3% in the previous month, supported by growth in both rural and urban areas of the country.

On the upside, Bajaj Finance, Eternal, UltraTech Cement and Reliance Industries posted the biggest gains, adding between 0.3% and 0.8%.

In the meantime, merchandise exports were 6.7% higher to $35 billion in the period despite the introduction of 25% in the second week of August, which were doubled by the end of the month.
