Positive domestic economic data further lifted sentiment, as easing inflation raised hopes of further interest rate cuts. However, gains were capped by Wall Street’s decline on Tuesday amid worries that the US could become directly involved in the Israel-Iran conflict. The Nifty 50 index rose 0.3%, climbing above 24,900, led by notable gains from IndusInd Bank (5.2%), Maruti Suzuki (2.0%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.8%), Bajaj Finance (0.9%), and Titan (0.7%).

Consequently, investors continued to focus on the low inflationary backdrop in India and the dovish response by the RBI. The headline inflation rate fell by more than expected to 2.82% in May, the lowest in over six years, and well under the RBI's midpoint target of 4%. Consequently, the RBI delivered a sharper-than-expected rate cut in its June meeting to lower benchmark borrowing costs to 5.5%. The central bank also delivered a series of liquidity injections into commercial banks after the its defense of the rupee drained domestic reserves and tightened financing conditions.

Meanwhile, markets remained on edge ahead of the US Fed’s policy decision scheduled for Wednesday. On the corporate front, 21 out of 30 Sensex constituents ended in the red. Key laggards included Tata Motors, Eicher Motors, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finserv, and Nestle India. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra, Asian Paints, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, TCS, and HCL Technologies posted gains, helping limit the index’s downside.
