India’s equities rose 162 points, or 0.2%, to 80,450 in Wednesday morning trade, hovering at their highest level since mid-December 2024 and marking a third consecutive session of gains. The rally was supported by strength in pharmaceuticals, property, and healthcare stocks. The BSE Sensex followed an upbeat session on Wall Street overnight, buoyed by reports of a major trade deal nearing completion and solid corporate earnings. Positive sentiment was also driven by optimism over US-India trade talks, after President Donald Trump signaled that a deal was close. However, escalating geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, along with disappointing Chinese PMI data, capped further gains. The Nifty 50 rose 0.2% to nearly 24,400, supported by continued foreign fund inflows. Top performers included Power Grid (up 2.0%), HDFC Bank (1.2%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.1%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.8%).
