The annual inflation rate in Russia moderated for a third straight month to 9.4% in June 2025, the softest in seven months, from 9.9% in May. Still, it remains well above the central bank's 4% target. Prices increased at a slower pace for food (11.9% vs 12.5% in May), mainly fruits and vegetables (15.3% vs 19.8%); services (12.0% vs 12.6%) and non-food products (4.5% vs 4.8%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.2% in June, slowing from the 0.4% increase seen in May.

Russia recorded a trade surplus of $8.7 billion in May of 2025, narrowing from the $12.1 billion surplus in the corresponding period of the previous year. Exports slumped by 9.7% from the previous year to $33.1 billion, the fourth consecutive month of lower foreign sales as lower oil prices and softer commodity demand from Russia's key trading partner, China, pared buying from Russia's key industries that are shunned from commerce with the West. In turn, imports dropped by 0.4% to $24.4 billion, halting two straight import expansions.

The Russian Federal Government recorded a budget gap of RUB 3.7 trillion in the first six months of 2025, or 1.7% of the GDP, from RUB 0.9 trillion in the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the finance ministry. The current figure aligned with the government's target for the year. Russia raised the 2025 budget estimate to 1.7% of the GDP in April from 0.5% after reducing the energy revenue forecast by 24%, amid an expected prolonged period of low oil prices. Spending during this period surged by 20.2% to RUB 21.28 trillion while revenues rose by only 2.8% RUB 17.6 trillion.
