Sweden’s annual inflation rate eased to 0.2% in May 2025, confirming initial estimates and down from 0.3% in April. This marks the lowest level since November 2020 and the tenth consecutive month that inflation has remained below the Riksbank’s 2% target. Main downward pressures came from ongoing deflation in housing and utilities (-3% vs. -3.7% in April), driven by lower interest costs for tenant-owned apartments and owner-occupied homes. Transport prices also continued to decline (-4.4% vs. -1.6%), mainly due to falling fuel costs. Price growth also slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.2% vs. 5.5%), recreation and culture (0.8% vs. 1.2%), and miscellaneous goods and services (4.1% vs. 4.3%). Meanwhile, CPIF (consumer price index with a fixed interest rate), the Riksbank’s preferred inflation measure, held steady at 2.3% in May for the third period. On a monthly basis, CPI rose 0.1%, matching April’s pace.
