Persistent drops in new work and production needs prompted firms to reduce purchasing activity and maintain tight control over inventories, with both input and finished goods stocks declining at the start of the fourth quarter. Inflationary pressures strengthened, as average input costs rose at the fastest pace in 15 months. Although overall sentiment toward future output remained negative, it was less pessimistic than in the previous three months.

Taiwan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.35% in September, unchanged from the previous month and remaining at its highest level since April. The number of unemployed persons declined by 8,000 month-over-month to 407,000, while employment decreased by 11,000 to 11.63 million. The youth unemployment rate, which tracks job seekers aged 20 to 24, fell to 12.01% in September from an eleven-month high of 12.08% in the preceding month. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate went down to 59.51% from 59.58% in August.

In contrast, optimism improved across most other categories, including household financial conditions (74.71 vs 72.54), domestic economic outlook (78.35 vs 76.18), and expectations for durable goods purchases (92.37 vs 90.70). Consumers also turned slightly more positive on the price level outlook (32.22 vs 29.95) and employment opportunities (69.58 vs 67.07), signaling that confidence in the broader economy remained resilient despite a pullback in investment sentiment.

The Broad M2 money supply in Taiwan increased by 5.44% year-on-year to a new all-time high of TWD 66,544 billion in September 2025, following a 4.76% gain in the previous month. This growth was mainly driven by higher annual growth rates in loans and investments. Considering the first nine months of the year, the average annual growth rate stood at 4.29%.
