On the corporate front, Shell climbed 2.7% after reporting stronger-than-expected Q1 profits and announcing a $3.5 billion (£2.6 billion) share buyback. NatWest and Standard Chartered also saw positive movement following their respective Q1 earnings reports. Miners, including Glencore and Anglo American, advanced in tandem with higher copper and gold prices. For the week, the index was set to advance 2.2%.
