Expectations for production levels worsened, while assessments of orders improved. Additionally, finished goods inventories are seen to have increased compared to last month.

The Italian consumer confidence index fell to 96.2 in August 2025, down from a five-month high of 97.2 in the previous month, and below market expectations of 96.6. The decline in sentiment was broad-based, with most of the index’s main components deteriorating to varying degrees. The personal climate index fell to 95.9 from 96.9 in July, the current climate index slipped to 99.2 from 99.7, and the future climate index declined more sharply to 92.2 from 93.9. Meanwhile, consumers’ assessment of the general economic situation also weakened, falling to 97.0 from 98.2 in the previous month.
