Montenegro’s trade deficit widened to EUR 364 million in July 2025 from EUR 356.3 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. This marked the largest deficit since records began in January 2007. Exports rose by 8.5% year-on-year to EUR 45 million, while imports rose by 2.8% to EUR 409 million. Considering January to July of 2025, exports fell by 0.9% compared to the same period last year to EUR 327.3 million, weighed down by lower sales in manufactured goods classified by material (-40.5%), machinery and transport equipment (-26.2%), beverages and tobacco (-15%), animal oils and fats (-10.9%), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-5.8%). Meanwhile, imports rose by 6.5% to EUR 2,492.4 million, attributed to increased purchases of beverages and tobacco (12.2%), food and live animals (9.6%), animal oils and fats (8.5%), chemicals (6.9%), and mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials (0.9%).
